What is Body Jet liposuction?
Body Jet liposuction, also known as Body Jet water assisted liposuction (WAL), is a type of liposuction that involves using high-pressure water jets to detach stubborn areas of fat.
It is a procedure that has many advantages over traditional liposuction. For example, Body Jet liposuction is capable of removing small, stubborn fat collections that traditional liposuction would not be able to touch.
This means that patients who are approaching their target weight may be better suited to a treatment like Body Jet liposuction to achieve their ideal body shape, as opposed to more traditional liposuction surgery.
Body Jet liposuction fat transfer is capable of doing this by combining suction using a cannula vacuum with a pressurised jet of tumescent solution. This jet disrupts the connective tissue that binds fat cells, releasing it from the body where it is then removed via the cannula.
Body Jet liposuction results
Body Jet water assisted liposuction can achieve good results when used in areas like thighs, hips, flanks, ankles, and jowls. These areas usually harbour stubborn collections of fat that are tough to remove using traditional liposuction.
However, the results from Body Jet liposuction are not as effective when it comes to body shaping compared to Vaser liposuction.
This is partly due to skin retraction. While it is more effective than traditional liposuction, it still falls short when compared with Vaser.
On top of this, while the pressurised water is effective at dislodging fat, it is limited to where the probe can point. This means that hard to reach areas will be harder to remove, especially if the fatty connective tissue is particularly tough.
Saying this, Body Jet liposuction results will definitely be better than traditional liposuction for patients who are:
- Close to their target weight
- Wanting to remove areas of fat that liposuction would not be able to remove
- Wanting to remove fat in parts of the body that traditional liposuction struggles with
Body Jet liposuction recovery
Recovery after Body Jet liposuction is very smooth. The procedure is short, recovery turnaround is fast, and patients can leave the surgery on the same day without worrying about too much downtime from their day-to-day routine.
The treatment, like with traditional liposuction, is performed under local anaesthesia. It will be painless, and there will be minimal discomfort.
Swelling, bruising, and scarring is minimal and will generally heal within a few days of the procedure.
Body Jet liposuction vs Vaser
Vaser liposuction comes with the same benefits that Body Jet liposuction comes with and more. It is a type of liposuction that comes with quick recovery, speedy completion, and proficient fat removal.
Ultrasound assisted liposuction (another term for Vaser) works with a similar concept to Body Jet: disrupt the fat cells to make them easier to vacuum with a cannula.
In practice, though, the two procedures are very different. Vaser utilises ultrasound waves to liquify fat cells, making it possible to remove more fat than with traditional liposuction.
Ultrasound waves are more effective at removing stubborn, hardy fat cells than Body Jet liposuction techniques, while remaining as minimally invasive.
This means that Vaser patients see higher levels of fat loss and still recover just as fast with minimal bruising, swelling, and bleeding.
