What Is The Difference Between A Breast Augmentation And A Breast Lift?

Whether the breasts appear asymmetrical, empty, have dropped or sagged, it’s not uncommon for women to want to correct these issues, to restore their confidence in and feel better in themselves. Dependent on the desired effect, a breast augmentation or lift is usually required, but how do you tell which one is right for you? In this post, we look at the difference between the two, helping you to decide.

The Key Difference Between A Breast Augmentation And A Breast Lift

Whereas breast augmentation focuses on the size and shape of the breasts, it won’t correct sagging or drooping breasts, which a breast uplift can.

    What Is A Breast Augmentation?

A breast augmentation is where implants are used to enlarge or reshape the breasts. Implants come in two basic shapes: round, which is made of cohesive silicone gel and results in more natural feeling breasts, and tear drop implants, made of solid cohesive silicone gel and provides a more natural shape. The implants will either be placed in front of the pectoral muscles (‘over the muscle’) or underneath them (‘under the muscle’).

If you opt for a breast augmentation, your surgeon will help you choose the appropriate shape and placement based on your anatomy, skin elasticity, body type and preferred size. These factors will determine incision location too: Inframammary (under the breast fold), Periareolar (around the nipple) and Axillary (in the armpit). What Is My Suitability For A Breast Augmentation?

    Breast implants are appropriate when:

    • Your breasts are fully developed, yet appear asymmetrical, or small.
    • The upper part of your breasts seem empty, or have lost volume and shape due to pregnancy, weight loss or ageing.
    • There is mild drooping.
    • You would like larger breasts.

What Are The Benefits Of A Breast Augmentation?

    • Your breasts will appear larger, fuller, better shaped and be in proportion to your body.
    • The procedure can restore symmetry so that they are both the same shape and size.
    • Clothes and bras will fit better.
    • It can help with sagging and drooping breasts.
    • Any scarring, bruises and wounds tend to be well-hidden, with healing improving the appearance of them.

    What Is A Breast Lift?

A breast lift is used to raise and re-shape the breasts, as well reposition the nipples and areola complex. It involves excising excess skin, remodelling breast issue for a more appealing shape, heightening the nipples and reshaping the areola complex if required. This tightens, firms and contours the breasts.

What Is My Suitability For A Breast Lift?

    • Breast drooping or sagging is more severe, perhaps due to the effects of gravity, age, weight loss, and after-effects of pregnancy.
    • Your nipples are located at the bottom of the breasts and point downwards.
    • The areolas are too big and you want to reduce them.

What Are The Benefits Of A Breast Lift?

    • Your breasts will appear perkier, firmer and youthful.
    • Scarring is generally well-hidden beneath the breasts, with only slight scarring visible atop the breasts.

It should be noted that a breast lift does not increase breast size. For a fuller chest, a breast augmentation is required, and can be used in conjunction with a breast lift for a complete overhaul.

The Benefits of Eyelid Surgery | Blepharoplasty

When you look at your face, what do you see? What do you like? What do you focus on? Like many people, the eyes may be the area that you feel most conscious about, and the eye bags are the first thing you see. Eye bags can make you look older and tired and take away the beauty your eyes once held, reducing self-confidence and self-esteem. Fortunately, eye bag surgery (also known as a blepharoplasty) can restore youthfulness to your face. In this post, we look at how eye bags form, what the surgery involves and the associated benefits.

    How Do Eye Bags Form?

As we age, collagen and elastin found in the skin around the eyes start to break down, causing a reduction in elasticity. This causes the eyelids to droop and sag, resulting in unwanted skin around the eyes, leading to wrinkles and eye bags. In severe cases, the excess skin can affect your vision.

Eye bags may also be exacerbated by tiredness, smoking, an unhealthy diet or poor make-up removal. Tiredness is what gives eye bags that dark colour.

What Does Eye Bag Surgery Involve?

There are two main eye bag removal procedures: Upper Eyelid Surgery and Lower Eyelid Surgery. Briefly, the surgeries involve:

Upper Eyelid Surgery: Skin excess is removed from the upper eyelid.

Lower Eyelid Surgery: Fat bags are removed from the lower eyelid for a smooth and even look.

Both surgeries leave the patient looking refreshed, youthful and without noticeable scars.

    Benefits of Blepharoplasty

The advantages of a blepharoplasty include:

    Removal of Excess Skin

If your eye area has excess or baggy skin, it can become uncomfortable and difficult to live with. Excess skin can block your vision, rub, and even become sore. A blepharoplasty removes this excess skin, improving your quality of life.

    Removes Dark Circles

The procedure also gets rid of dark circles under the eyes and, therefore, that ‘tired’ look. Because excess fat is removed from the lower eye, it impacts the way light hits the area, making the dark circles far less visible.

    Improved Vision

One of the biggest benefits of undergoing a blepharoplasty is the fact that vision is no longer inhibited due to a lifted brow. Excess skin can droop, covering the eye and making it difficult to see clearly. By undergoing blepharoplasty, you can avoid this.

    Reduce The Look of Wrinkles

When you undergo the procedure, wrinkles, fine lines, and crow’s feet around the eyes are reduced. This gives you back your youthful appearance by focusing on the issues that create that dull, exhausted look, including drooping tissue, wrinkles, and excess skin.

    Enhance Your Natural Beauty

The procedure also enhances your face’s natural beauty by altering the shape and appearance of your eyes. Excess skin around the eyes can make you appear much older than you are, so removing this excess skin can make your face appear more aesthetically pleasing.

    Improve Your Self-esteem

The procedure can help you experience a boost in self-esteem and self-confidence as you will visibly look and feel younger. When we are not entirely comfortable with a feature of our faces, it can be challenging to focus on anything but that; this procedure takes away the emotional impact caused by excess skin.

    Long Lasting Results

The procedure results can last for years and, in some cases, are permanent. This means that you can rest easy knowing that revisions will be unlikely.

Let’s Face It: The Benefits Of A Face Lift

Our faces define our beauty, our appearance and how we show ourselves to the world. They give us the confidence to gain dream jobs, meet partners and be our authentic selves. We may live exciting lives, but our faces shouldn’t look like the roadmap. The good, and the bad – the effects of ageing, stress and sun exposure – can cause loose or sagging skin, lines, deep jowls and wrinkles, as well as a reduction in self-esteem. A face lift can renew your confidence and restore your face back to its brilliant beauty. In this post, we look at the advantages of face lifts and how you could benefit.

    What is a Face Lift?

A face lift, or a Rhytidectomy involves the removal of surplus skin and fat, as well as the lifting and tightening of loose skin and sagging muscles. Areas focused on include the eyelids, nose and cheeks, and patients regularly request a brow lift and/or eye-bag surgery for a complete and refreshed look. There are different types, including the ‘The Mini Lift’, ‘The SMAS Lift’ and ‘The Composite Facelift’.

    Briefly, the aforementioned lifts involve:

The Mini Lift: A simple skin lift and tighten.

The SMAS Lift: The muscles (part of the Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System) are also lifted and excess fat is removed. The SMAS sags as we age due to reduced collagen production.

The Composite Facelift: Combines an extended SMAS lift with a brow lift and lower eyelid surgery.

The Benefits Of A Face Lift

    • Tightens The Skin: For a youthful, stress-free and refreshed appearance.

If you’ve experienced weight loss a face lift can also repair any sagging caused.

    • Improves Facial Contours: By creating a stronger jawline, smoother cheeks and more attractive neck area.
    • Appear Younger: Looking as young as you feel, if not younger!
    • Increased Confidence: Your beauty redefined, without the need to hide behind hair.
    • Easier Make-Up Application: Creating a smoother aesthetic for boosted beauty.
    • Greater Clothing Options: No need for scarves, turtle necks or other items of clothing that hide the face and neck.
