Labiaplasty is a procedure that’s carried out under general or local anaesthetic and is designed to reshape your labia for medical or cosmetic reasons.
The surgery can change the size, symmetry or shape of your labia minora (small inner lips of your vulva), or less commonly, your labia majora (large outer lips of your vulva).
A labiaplasty is mainly done for purely cosmetic reasons, and the rise in popularity of the Brazilian wax means the labia will be more noticeable which can lead to body confidence issues.

Typically taking around one to two hours, your labiaplasty is carried out under either a general anaesthetic or a local anaesthetic and is more often than not, an outpatient procedure – meaning no overnight stay.
It’s essential to remember that everybody is different so this will be discussed and added to a treatment plan by your surgeon when you have your consultation.
During the surgery, your labia will be carefully reduced and/or reshaped to give it a neater appearance.
There are several techniques that your surgeon can opt for which will be discussed with you before the surgery takes place.
This is the original, and most widely used technique. It involves the removal of the excess part of the labia minora before it’s sutured leaving it symmetrical with the labia major.
Here a partial thickness wedge is removed from the thickest part of the labia minora. The submucosa (layer tissue beneath a mucous membrane) must be left intact by removing only a partial thickness.
This procedure gives the vagina a natural look after the surgery, preserving the wrinkled edges.
