Swimwear Trends And How To Work Them

Summer is fast-approaching, and you know what that means ladies – it’s time to get stocked up on all that lovely swimwear that has already started hitting the shelves. Last year it was all about front tied swimsuits, tassels and off the shoulder designs, but this year the runway has brought us metallics, animals prints and more! Because we’re all so excited to hit the beach here at New Birkdale Clinic, we thought we’d take a look at what trends the world of fashion has in store for us, and pick out some of your favourite examples of these trends from around the net.

THE FIVE BIGGEST SWIMWEAR TRENDS – SUMMER 2019

    Animal Prints

Animal prints are making their mark this summer, with every stripe, spot and scale under the sun popping up in shops across the UK! You’ll find leopard prints and python skin, as well as zebra and tiger stripes on all types of swimwear from one-pieces and bikinis to triangle tops and bandeaus. We’re loving the variety of colours these prints come in to, with bright neons and black and whites staking their claim on the au natural look.

    Cutouts

Almost every swimwear brand under the sun has released its own version of a ‘’sexy cutout’’ swimsuit, for example Agent Provocateur with its bandage wrap swimsuit or selection that has whole sides missing. Along with side cuts, breast cuts and stomach cuts, this is the style that just keeps on giving.

    High Waisted Bottoms

If you’re looking for a more comfy bottom piece that is body-flattering and maternity-friendly, then your search is over. High waisted bottoms are so good because they combine the styles of the seasons with the body-forming factor that we all want, ensuring we can all express ourselves in our own unique way. If you like a ruffle, there’s an option for that. If you like a cute pattern, there’s an option for that too. The high waist may be eminent of the 90’s, but brands are bringing it into the 21st century with fabulous force.

    Bows

Sure to make summer sweet, bows are that extra detail that work well with any print, style or design. Whether the focal point, the side detail or the shoulder piece that holds it all together, so if you’re looking for that touch of something special – then bows are the way to go!

    New Year, New You

Every year, thousands of us flock to the gym come January 1st, only to be disappointed when the results we work so hard for don’t appear, even after months of exercising. If you feel like this always happens to you, you aren’t alone, and it might be worth looking into some body contouring options. At New Birkdale Clinic, we perform liposuction and tummy tuck procedures to help you get a headstart on the body you’ve worked so hard for and deserve.

Generally our proportion of fat to body weight tends to increase as we age, and even more so in women than in men. The number of fat cells in our bodies may stay more or less the same, but the amount of fat they each hold can vary massively.  This can localise in areas such as the thighs, arms and stomach, making it hard to get rid of. This may also be caused by genetics, or related to pregnancy.

    Liposuction

Liposuction is fantastic for those who have tried time and time again to lose weight, and who find that even when they do, they just can’t remove those stubborn pockets of fat. Liposuction is an easy solution that works by using a cannula and suction to remove fat from under the skin. In the vast majority of cases, liposuction is performed under general anaesthetic as a day case, and you can leave the practice within a few hours of the procedure.

Liposculpture is a newer and more precise subset of liposuction, using smaller cannulae and is gentler than traditional liposuction. Using liposculpture, surgeons can suction fat from much closer to the surface of the skin, leaving less behind, and making skin tightening procedures easier and more effective.

    Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat and skin from the abdominal area.

Tummy tucks are best-suited for people who are generally healthy but who have trouble clearing fat around their stomach. This can include women who have poor muscle tone and loose skin after pregnancy, older patients, and patients who have previously lost a lot of weight and are left with sagging excess skin afterwards.

As well as traditional abdominoplasty procedures, which involves removing all the skin and fat between the pubic bone and the umbilicus, there are several different variations of abdominoplasty offered at New Birkdale Clinic to make sure we can tailor the procedure to your needs.

A Modified Abdominoplasty or ‘Mini Tuck’, operates on a smaller area just above the pubic bone, and below the umbilicus.

The Apronectomy or ‘Modified Mini Tuck’ is similar to the Mini Tuck, but also removes large amounts of excess skin and tissue in the area.

An Extended Abdominoplasty and Flankoplasty is a more extensive procedure in which the incision also goes around the sides and back to remove surplus skin and fat.

Most abdominoplasty procedures involve an overnight stay in our private hospital.

Anti-Ageing Foods You Should Include In Your Diet

During consultations and after surgeries, one of the most frequently asked questions we get asked is, ‘Which foods should I be eating to prolong my youthful skin?’ It’s a good question, and the truth is, a balanced diet full of vegetables, fruit, fish, meat and chocolate (yes chocolate!) will protect the skin and aid recovery should you experience facial flaws. However, if we had to pick 5 great foods that we truly believe in, then these would be it:

    Blueberries

    • Full of Anthocyanins which fight inflammation and tissue damage, known to speed up the ageing process.
    • Contains Vitamin C which protects against potential sun damage such as sun spots.
    • Loaded with Antioxidants that reduce the effects of stress, exercise and pollution.

Serving Suggestion: Blend with other berries for a delicious fruit smoothie.

    Salmon

    • Astaxanthin-rich, which protects cells from inflammation, sun damage and is said to have greater antioxidant ability than Vitamins A, C and E.
    • A great source of Omega-3 which boosts the skin’s membrane, retaining useful moisture yet ensuring harmful substances can’t pass through.
    • Also contains Selenium which increases the body’s resistance to illness, stress and cell damage.

    salmon

Serving Suggestion: In chunks with fettuccine and soft cream sauce for a tasty Italian dish.

    Dark Chocolate

    • Filled to the brim with Flavanols, which increases blood flow to the skin.
    • Contains Polyphenols that reduce the effects of wrinkles and increase skin elasticity.
    • Cocoa has been linked to protecting the nerves from injuries, allowing scars to heal quickly.

    Cookie

Serving Suggestion: Bake into oatmeal cookies for an added source of moisture and antioxidants.

    Watermelon

    • Loaded with Lycopene which protects the skin from harmful bacteria as well as sun and light damage.
    • Induces collagen production, which strengthens the skin.
    • Contains Potassium which aid water and nutrient regulation within skin cells.

    watermelon

Serving Suggestion: Place in a salad with lettuce, chicken chunks and olive oil.

    Turmeric

So, maybe not a food per say, but a worthwhile source of anti-ageing elements all the same.

    • Stops telomere (part of our DNA) shortening, which has been linked to ageing and diseases.
    • Protects elastin’s ability to form, keeping the skin smooth.
    • For those dealing with Eczema, Rosacea or other such skin ailments, Turmeric can calm flare-ups and even prevent its formation.

    turmeric

Serving Suggestion: Add to a soothing soup after a long day at work.

All we can say is, Bon Appetite!
