Profhilo treatment– What’s All The Excitement About?

Introducing the new kid on the block (insert your own drum roll here) we’d love you to meet Profhilo!

We all know that when we hit 30, we start losing a significant amount of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid and when that happens we start to think about preventative treatments. There’s plenty of options already on the market, depending on what kind of result you’re after but Profhilo is fast becoming a favourite.

Learn ore about out anti-wrinkle injections and how can you benefit from them.

    What is Profhilo treatment?

It’s a new Hyaluronic Acid gel treatment which has one of the highest concentrations of HA on the market and helps to lift and hydrate your skin, leading a rejuvenated, radiant appearance. Essentially it significantly improves the tissue quality (which can actually compliment all other aesthetic or cosmetic procedures.)

Our body produces less hyaluronic acid as we grow in age. This may cause, skin to dry, wrinkles and dryness. Profhilo is a new form of injectable therapy that reduces these unwanted effects and help in anti-ageing.

Profhilo can be used in the Face, neck, and décolletage. On the body it can treat the hands, upper arms and above the knees – put simply, It helps to get rid of crepey skin by hydrating it from inside out.

We also cover other non-surgical facial treatments like, microneedling/dermapen, plasma elite.

    Profhilo needle

What’s the difference between Profhilo and Filler?

Profhilo is highly purified hyaluronic acid which is injected into the skin. It initially hydrates the skin and goes on to stimulate your natural collagen and elastin production for a rejuvenating effect.

Dermal fillers also tend to be hyaluronic acid based with additional ingredients included. Like Profhilo, dermal fillers are injected into the skin.

While this sounds similar, both work quite differently. Dermal fillers just work on a particular area, like cheeks or lips and do not spread to the area surrounding it.

Profhilo contains the highest amount of concentrated hyaluronic acid which helps in producing more collagen. Hyalyronic acid holds moisture by heat bonding rather than chemical bonding when injected. Consequently, Profhilo offers amazing anti-aging benefits for our skin by acting as a hydrator rather than a filler!

Other than hyaluronic acid, fillers have other components too. It also consists of calcium hydroxylapatite, which is a mineral and a major component found in bones.

Filler adds more volume and structure to the specific areas while profhilo does not.

Profhilo gives more nuanced results than fillers. They are used for overall skin enhancement while fillers are for redefining shapes and sizes.

Unlike Profhilo, they are targeted at specific areas to replenish lost volume and repair skin damage, as well as increasing natural collagen and elastin levels in that area.

    Profhilo kit being used

How often should you have Profhilo?

You do need 2 sessions with around a four-week gap so you don’t overload (2mls at a time is the most you can do) or irritate the skin but you get more of the effect with two.

After the initial treatment phase spaced in 4 weeks, you should get the maintenance sessions every 6 months. This slight touch up can give longer lasting results and a constant hydrating skin.

Frequency of getting a profhilo also depends on factors like:

Skin type and condition: A dry and more damaged skin will need profhilo more frequently than other skin types.

Age: As collagen concentration is less in aged skin, they would need the sessions more often than a younger skin.

Time of results: If you wish you get results faster, you should take more frequent sessions.

Sensitivity: A highly sensitive skin should many sessions in a small window as this can cause skin irritation.

    How does Profhilo work?

You can expect to see a gradual intense hydration, improvement in lines and tightness of your skin. After eight weeks is when you will see the most improvement with a lifting and tightening of the skin – it will be more hydrated and appear more youthful and in better health. Some patients have reported an immediate improvement after treatment. Overall, you can expect increased firmness, elasticity and an overall improved quality of skin, with the effects lasting up to six months or longer.

The effects are temporary and repeat treatments of 1 or 2 sessions can be carried out from approximately 6 months onward in order to maintain the results and, and as with every treatment, results will vary from person to person and depends upon the degree of correction required, your age and lifestyle, and to your body’s response to treatment.

Pribilof pen being used on a woman face

Does Profhilo help with heavy lines?

No, Profhilo won’t fill heavy lines.  It’s a skin quality treatment, for smoother texture, bounce, plumpness, elasticity. It remodels skin but will not make any difference to contours.

For lift, you need fillers and for addressing formed lines like the forehead or crow’s feet, wrinkle relaxing injections is still best. But really if you’re having wrinkle relaxing injections and filler treatments you should also consider Profhilo – it will work in the background to make other injectable results look better and last longer thanks to a better quality of tissue.

Profhilo isn’t the easiest of products to administer. Inject too deeply and the HA can’t get to the surface of the skin to do its job of smoothing and elasticating and inject too lightly and you end up with a face of acid-filled pimples that eventually fade into nothing so, as with all injectables, you should always go somewhere where they know what they are doing.

If you think it’s for you then we’d love to welcome you into our clinic for a consultation with one of our specialists.

Anti-Ageing Injections & Fillers – Keep it Clinical

Would you feel completely comfortable having a tooth extracted by a beauty therapist who had learned that one procedure and had observed dentists performing it, but had no other medical training? Or would you prefer a qualified dentist to do it? You should have the same thought process when it comes to anti-ageing injections and Fillers.

Both procedures are classed as non-surgical and both involve having a substance injected into your body – but if the person holding the needle isn’t a trained clinician, you could end up scarred for life.

This isn’t about doctors thinking they are more superior and skilled than therapists, it’s simply about what each has been trained to do, and the risk they could pose to a patient. It’s not illegal for beauty therapists to perform filler injections, it’s just not a good idea in terms of patient safety.

Whether you’re considering anti-ageing injections or Fillers; (both are used to rectify or prevent the signs of ageing; while fillers are typically used to add volume and plump the skin, anti-ageing injections temporarily blocks nerve signals in the muscles where it’s injected to restrict movement and treat ‘expression lines’.) one thing is for certain – you need to put your safety first.

Worldwide, hyaluronic acid-based injectables (fillers) were the second most common procedure performed in 2017 – behind only anti-ageing injections – according to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and over the last few years there has been an increase in ‘bogus’ nurses and amateur beauticians performing unsafe treatments in non-clinical surroundings. As a result, they say more patients are suffering from parts of their lips becoming lumpy or disproportionate in size, infections, ulceration or necrosis (when the lip tissue dies and goes black).

Anyone can buy hyaluronic acid gel and inject it into someone’s lips. This is because there are no laws in the UK that regulate people who carry out non-surgical cosmetic procedures, such as lip fillers.

Meanwhile, anti-ageing injections are classed as a prescription-only medicine in the UK, which means it can only be prescribed and given to a patient by a qualified prescriber. Only medical professionals can qualify as prescribers, so therapists can only perform anti-ageing injections if they work alongside a prescribing clinician. The prescriber cannot dispense the toxin remotely; they must be present at a patient consultation and the prescriber also has responsibility for the outcome of the procedure.

This means that reputable clinics will only employ medical professionals such as doctors, nurses, and dentists to administer toxin and filler treatments.

Though current legislation does not prevent therapists from performing injectable treatments, it is likely that regulations will be introduced at some point – anti-ageing injections and Fillers may be ‘non-surgical’, but they involve a medical procedure and are not just a beauty treatment.

Dermal filler injections are not superficial skin treatments, they are needle injections that penetrate the skin to a depth that increases the risk of complications. It’s therefore important to remember that it isn’t just about who can wield a syringe but who has the ability to deal with any possible complications.

Be the Face of Mother’s Day

There’s no doubt about it, being a mum is hard work whether you’re new to the experience or a seasoned pro. So, whether you’re treating your mum to some wonderful pampering treatments, or you’re a mum who wants to feel relaxed and rejuvenated for the 31st March, at New Birkdale Clinic we can help you find the confidence to be the face of Mother’s Day this year!

Aside from helping you look and feel younger; our treatments are a great opportunity to take some time just for you. You can improve areas you might feel insecure about or turn back the clock to help you feel more like yourself again.

Feel Young Again with Dermal Fillers

What are dermal fillers? Essentially, they are injections that help to smooth and fill out fine lines and creases in the skin. Dermal fillers are most often used to create the appearance of full, youthful lips and to plump-up sagging cheeks.

This is a combination of collagen, which boosts your skin’s natural elasticity, and nutrient-rich hyaluronic acid, which helps to regulate water balance. This method of treatment is ideal for smoothing out the effects of ageing, sun exposure and weight loss. With results lasting up to 18 months, it’s a great way to get a natural looking reduction in lines and wrinkles whilst feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and refreshed.

Banish the Wrinkles with Anti-ageing Injections

Perfect for those who want to improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles, wrinkle relaxing injections is a quick, anti-ageing treatment which will noticeably decrease the appearance of fine lines (such as smile and frown lines) within 5-7 days.

At New Birkdale Clinic we use Botulinum Toxin Type A for our treatments, which achieves consistently great results to leave your skin looking smoother and younger. Treatments take just 10-15 minutes and the results will last up to 6 months.

Pick Yourself Up with a Thread Lift

Also known as a non-surgical face lift, a thread lift is a safe and long-lasting alternative to surgery. Helping to combat the effects of a sagging neck, drooping eyebrows and crow’s feet, we can also combine a thread lift with anti-ageing injections for maximum effect.

During the procedure, small threads will be inserted just beneath your skin’s surface, encouraging tissue regeneration and collagen production, which will help to tighten and lift your skin. Effects will become noticeable within 1-2 months after treatment and will last for up to 2 years.

    Feel the Magic with Microdermabrasion

One of our simplest and most popular treatments for helping to reveal glowing, fresh-looking skin, Microdermabrasion is suitable even for those with sensitive skin. Microcrystals are used to remove tired cells and reveal younger, healthy cells. The appearance of fine lines, superficial blemishes and pigmentary problems can be improved with this anti-aging treatment.

    Anti-aging Injections

Anti-aging Injections is a great non-surgical solution to the traditional face lift, which leaves the skin looking noticeably younger, smoother and refreshed. Consisting of purified proteins that are injected into the face, they work by blocking nerve signals in the muscles, which freezes them, softening current wrinkles and preventing the formation of future ones. Especially great for forehead lines, frown lines, crow’s feet, bunny lines and smile lines, the treatment is quick and effective, giving your skin that beautifully-smooth complexion.

A great little confidence-booster, this treatment will ensure that the only wrinkles will be on the dresses!

    Dermal Fillers

If you’re looking to add more volume to your facial aesthetic, then we suggest a facial filler, choc-full of hyaluronic acid (HA) and collagen. These naturally-occurring ingredients work by targeting areas that have lost moisture, elasticity and volume, by filling in and smoothing out lines, wrinkles and any scars you may have, as well as plumping up thinning lips, sagging skin and any drooping, for example, in the chin. Leaving behind a natural-looking face that doesn’t freeze or stop facial movement, you face will feel instantly hydrated, rejuvenated and wonderful.

A popular treatment for lip enhancements, your perfect pout will steal the show.

Unsure whether ant-aging injection or dermal fillers are the right option for you? We recommend that you read our blog, ‘What Is The Difference Between anti-aging injections And Fillers?’ for more information on these two fantastic treatments.

    Plasma Elite

If you’re concerned about necklace lines, deep eye bags or hooded eyelids, then Plasma Elite is the perfect treatment to soften those lines and remove excess skin that is causing you discomfort and unhappiness. Using specially-placed brown, heat-absorbing spots on the treated area, as well as a high-tech hand-piece to create a charge of ‘plasmatic lighting’ within the treated area, the skin contracts because of stimulated collagen production. Tightening the skin, your neck and face is left refreshed.

It may sound a little overwhelming, but we promise that it’s a simple and safe procedure that works wonders.

    Laser Hair Removal

It’s only just turned Spring, so you’re forgiven if you’ve let your body hair grow a little long during the colder months. However, with the paparazzi everywhere at Aintree, you may want to shave, wax, or for the ultimate in hair removal, have it lasered. We use The Soprano XL®, which is a sophisticated diode laser system that gets to the hair follicles and destroys them, preventing them from growing again in the future. Therefore, you won’t just be sorted for this year’s Aintree, but next years as well!

To Lift Or To Inject – That Is The Question

With non-surgical procedures skyrocketing in popularity in recent years, it’s easy to think that the best way to counteract the signs of ageing is through injectables such as dermal fillers and anti-ageing injections. However, this isn’t always the case, and rhytidectomies, or face lifts, are still a popular choice for many people aiming to turn back the clock on their skin. In this blog, we’ll take a look at the difference between anti-ageing injections and facelifts, and help you choose the right procedure for you.

Anti-ageing injections are great for treating wrinkles and fine lines on all areas of the face. At New Birkdale Clinic, we use Botulinum Toxin Type A, a high quality form of anti-ageing injections. It works to reduce signs of ageing by blocking nerve signals to muscles in the face. This stops the muscles from moving, which lessens the appearance of fine lines, prevents existing wrinkles from worsening, and stops new lines from appearing. Forehead lines, frown lines, smile lines, crow’s feet and bunny lines can all be effectively treated with anti-ageing injections.

to lift or inject that is the question botox nbc

A facelift is one of the most popular surgical aesthetic procedures. The term ”facelift” can describe any of a group of surgical procedures designed to remove excess skin and fat, and tighten loose skin and muscles. Facelifts can give more dramatic and longer-lasting results than Botox injections, and are more effective at treating significant sagging in the face, and muscle and skin laxity. However, they are a far more time-consuming, expensive and taxing procedure on the body than non-surgical alternatives like Botox.

Types of facelift include the mini lift, which is the quickest and least invasive form of facelift and involves simply lifting and tucking the skin.

The SMAS facelift also lifts a deeper layer of muscle known as the superficial musculoaponeurotic system or SMAS as well as the skin above, creating a more significant lift in the lower face and neck, while also allowing for the removal of excess fat. An extended SMAS lift can also be carried out to improve the mid face and nasolabial lines, as can a composite facelift, which generally involves an extended SMAS lift, with the addition of a brow lift and/or lower eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty).

To Lift Or To Inject - That Is The Question facelift

Facelifts are a far more extensive procedure than Botox, and takes significantly more time in the clinic and in recovery. Facelift procedures can take from around two to five hours, depending on the surgeon and the type of facelift you choose. At New Birkdale Clinic, you will have bandages on your face for up to five days after a facelift, and sutures and clips will be removed between four and  ten days after, depending on the type of facelift you have. You will need to rest at home for around a week after the procedure and most people take two to three weeks off work. It generally takes around two months to see the full results of a facelift, when your face will look stunning and refreshed. Depending on the type of facelift procedure, the results can last from two to five years for a mini lift, to five to ten years for deeper types of facelift.

Anti-ageing injection, being a non-surgical procedure, is significantly less time-consuming. A single wrinkle smoothing injection session will last between 10-15 minutes, and the full results will be seen within  5-7 days. You should avoid exercise and touching the area for 24 hours, and hot baths for 48 hours following your treatment, but you can leave the clinic and get back to your life on the same day. wrinkle smoothing injections last for three to six months, when repeat treatments are recommended to maintain the results. However, with repeated treatments, the muscles are “trained” not to form new lines, leaving you with fresh, youthful skin.

to lift or inject that is the question antiwrinkle injections

There are significant differences between Anti-ageing injections and face lifts. At New Birkdale Clinic, we can work with you to help decide which is best for your face, lifestyle and personal preference, so that you can leave us feeling younger, fresher and more like your best self, no matter what you choose.

Wrinkle relaxing injection is perfect for you if your wrinkles are making you look older than you feel inside. Wrinkle Relaxing injections are a quick and simple procedure that noticeably reduces wrinkles within a week, and the results can last for up to 6 months. Wrinkle relaxing treatments work by injecting purified proteins into the muscles, freezing their movement and reducing wrinkles in the area. Repeated treatments also help train your muscles to stop new lines forming.

Dermal fillers are also an effective anti-aging procedure, but can also be used to treat other concerns too. Dermal fillers are made up of a combination of collagen and nutrient-rich hyaluronic acid that work together to plump up the skin, reducing wrinkles and improving the appearance of other common insecurities, like tear troughs (eye bags), drooping cheeks or chin, the shape of the nose and the appearance of scars.

Dermal fillers can also be used to plump up and reshape the lips, making them appear youthful, beautiful and kissable for your romantic evening.

Laser hair removal is an effective and comfortable treatment to remove hair by 80-100%, with little to no downtime. At New Birkdale Clinic, we use the Soprano XL system, which uses a laser that penetrates deep below the skin at a 10 pulse-per-second rate, gradually increasing the temperature of the cells responsible for hair growth and destroying them, also preventing regrowth. Without shaving, waxing, ingrown hairs or razor bumps to worry about, you can enjoy your Valentine’s day with soft, smooth skin that lasts.

If reducing any skin concerns you have is needed to make you feel great this Valentine’s, New Birkdale Clinic has a selection of treatments to help. Microneedling can improve the appearance of conditions like scarring, hyperpigmentation, rosacea, sun damage, dark circles and eyebags and enlarged pores. Microneedling or Dermapen procedures work by injecting tiny sterile needles into the skin to create what are known as micro-injuries. This encourages the skin’s natural healing processes, including the production of collagen and elastin to form stronger, smoother and fresher skin.

For a quick boost, microdermabrasion might be right for you in the run up to Valentine’s day. Microdermabrasion is an incredibly effective skin treatment that works using microcrystals to exfoliate the skin. The microcrystals are pushed across the surface of the skin, loosening dead cells on the top layer and exposing the new healthy cells below. It is perfect for even sensitive skin, and can be used as an anti-aging treatment to treat fine lines, as well as improving the appearance of marks and blemishes, skin congestion and skin pigmentation issues.

Plastic Surgery Trends Arriving in 2019

As 2018 draws to a close, we take a look at the treatments and surgeries that are set to rule the plastic surgery industry in 2019.

    Breast Reductions

Breast implants may have been among the most popular treatments a decade ago, but recent figures suggest this is no longer the case. 2017 saw a 20% decrease in breast augmentation procedures for women, while the number of breast reductions for both genders, rose. Opting for breasts that fit better with body shape, weight and height for women, or the ‘need’ to reduce man boobs for men explain this trend, as well as a cultural shift in what is considered attractive.

“Breast reductions are consistently reported as one of the highest patient satisfaction procedures because it positively affects a woman’s quality of life. It addresses both functional and aesthetic concerns.” Jeffrey E. Janis, President of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons

2019 will see this rise continue, along with the addition of laser bra lifts.

    Anti-ageing Injections

Anti-ageing injections will still rule the non-surgical side of the industry, due to its ability to fight signs of ageing, removing lines, wrinkles and crow’s feet in the process. 2019 will also see people opting for Anti-ageing injectionsas a preventive treatment, especially in young people wanting to prolong their youthful face for as long as possible. With rumours circulating that surgeons abroad are formulating an updated Anti-ageing injections that will stop wrinkles occurring in the first place, and that 2019 may see a new procedure surface that will blow Anti-ageing injections out of the water, we can’t wait to see what happens.

    Labiaplasty

2017 dubbed labiaplasty, ‘the world’s fastest-growing cosmetic procedure’, seeing a 45% rise year-on-year. Usually removing extra tissue (‘Trim Technique’) or reducing tissue and reshaping the labia (‘Wedge Technique’), there are various reasons why more and more women have been opting for this treatment:

“Most female patients request labiaplasty to help minimise pain, while others request it to improve the aesthetic appearance of their genital area. This procedure empowers women, and helps them achieve a better quality of life through increased comfort and sexual confidence,” Lina Triana, The International Society of Plastic Surgery.

With a high patient satisfaction rate, it’s no wonder that this trend will continue in 2019.

    Dermal Fillers

Popularised by celebrities such as Kylie Jenner and Priyanka Chopra, fillers are set to make it big in 2019. Used to rejuvenate the cheeks, lips, eye area, nose and chin, these collagen and hyaluronic acid-filled injections are proving a great alternative to face lifts, themselves on the decrease.

Similarly, the non-surgical nose job, which involves injecting dermal fillers into the nose to restructure and reshape it, is frequently being chosen over rhinoplasty due to its non-invasive nature.

    PRP

Plastic surgeons around the country are predicting that PRP (platelet-rich plasma) will be big in 2019, due to its multi-functional nature. PRP involves drawing blood from a patient, separating out the platelets from the red blood cells and injecting the former back into the skin. This boosts natural healing, removing wrinkles, lines and sun damage, as well as stimulating hair growth.

We can’t wait to see what else 2019 brings. To find out more about any of the treatments mentioned in this post, please call us today on 0151 374 2725.

    Be The Face Of Christmas

Ok. So we know Christmas is still over 2 months away, but it’s never too early to ensure you’re ready for the big day and all its celebrations. From the office party and the do at your favourite restaurant, to the fabulous meal you’re either hosting or attending, there’s plenty of opportunities to show off your beautiful face. Therefore, let’s talk about the great treatments you could have that will make it glisten and glow.

    The Face Lift

What Can A Face Lift Do?

If your face has started to sag, or you’re concerned you looked tired, then a face lift can help. It can tighten your skin, improve facial contours by giving you a stronger jawline and smoother cheeks and leaves you looking younger and refreshed. Moreover, make-up becomes easier to apply and there’s no need for scarves, turtle necks or other items of clothing that hide excess skin, lines or wrinkles on the face or neck. That means you can wear that gorgeous dress or statement suit and let your confidence shine through at parties, and feel more comfortable at home.

What Does A Face Lift Involve?

At New Birkdale Clinic, we offer the Minimal Access Cranial Suspension (MACS) facelift. This involves vertical uplift of the face’s deep tissue and skin traction, restoring sagging jowls, cheeks and the neck back to its former glory. It can also be used for creases around the eyelids and mouth.

An incision is made from the ear lobe and follows the natural contours of the face to reach the temporal area (near the eyebrow). Sutures are then attached to the temporal fascia and excess fluids and fat is removed by way of a small drain.

If non-surgical procedures are more your thing, then facial fillers, Anti-ageing injections or a thread lift may be the answer.

    Anti-ageing Injections

Anti-ageing injections is a quick procedure, especially great for crow’s feet, as well as forehead, frown, bunny and smile lines. It works by blocking nerve signals in your facial muscles, freezing them and reducing the effects of wrinkles and lines, rejuvenating the skin. A big bonus is that future lines won’t appear as harsh, meaning you can smile as much as you like during the holidays.

    Facial Fillers

Used to plump up thinning lips, reduce tear troughs, sagging cheeks and crow’s feet, as well as improve the appearance of scars, facial fillers help to give the face back its natural beauty. Rich in hyaluronic acid (HA) and collagen, the fillers boosts skin moisture, cell regeneration and therefore increases volume.

    Thread Lift

If you’re wary of injections, incisions or deep-tissue change, then a thread lift is a great alternative. Working just as well on wrinkles, drooping eyebrows and crow’s feet as on sagging neck, cheek and jowl skin, a thread lift involves inserting polydioxanone (PDO) threads into the hypodermis skin layer. This causes micro-injuries that stimulates skin repair through collagen production, gradually tightening and lifting the skin over time. Skin texture and elasticity are improved and new blood vessels also develop, aiding your skin’s microcirculation.
