Who is Suitable for a Boob Job?
While a boob job is a common procedure for many women, we need to ensure that you are the right candidate for breast enlargement surgery.
As a standard, we will need to ensure that our patients are:
- Physically healthy.
- Have realistic expectations.
- Fully developed.
The Surgery
Breast implantation is usually performed under general anaesthesia. However, a small number of surgeons prefer the use of local anaesthesia with sedation.
Most patients can go home the same day after a few hours of surgery and only occasionally do patients stay in the hospital overnight.
There are several means to insert a breast implant involving some degree of incision. It is a matter of patient and surgeon preference as to which is used.
The Implants
The quality of the implant used is very important. Rest assured, at New Birkdale Clinic we will offer you a choice of the best implants available, developed by the world’s leading companies in the design and production of modern breast implants.
All breast implants come in a variety of sizes, usually expressed as a volume. For example, 60ml would be a very small implant, whereas 600ml would be a large implant. The majority of women have implants in the range of 260ml to 380ml.
Round Implants vs Tear Drop Implants
Implants come in two basic shapes, either perfectly round or teardrop-shaped.
Some surgeons prefer one shape over the other, whilst others will use different types depending on the patient’s own characteristics. Overall, both give excellent results.

What happens to breast implants as you age?
Whether you’re young or old, you can get breast implants. There is no age limit to getting breast implants, only that you must be over 18 in the UK.
When we age, our skin produces less collagen which means it becomes more prone to sagging.
This can happen even when you have implants. The implants can also become deflated over long periods of time and lose their desired shape.
There is no way to totally prevent breast implants from sagging but there are measures you can take to ensure minimal sagging takes place.
By maintaining a healthy lifestyle and not letting your weight fluctuate greatly then the shape of your breasts will not change much, helping them to sag less.
How do the breast implants feel?
You will need time to adjust to your new breast implants just like you do with anything new. They may not look exactly as you imagined them to at first, but they need time to settle.
Your breasts will be swollen straight after surgery and might sit higher than expected on your chest. That’s why it’s important to remember that breast implants need around 4-6 weeks to settle.
This is known as dropping and fluffing and each implant may settle at different speeds but that’s completely normal.
